Fall Schedule set and wow, is Miguel Hermosillo really that good??

Today was the first day of fall classes at the University of Illinois.  Anyone on campus has already noticed the extra hustle and bustle.  I want to wish the Illinois baseball players a successful semester.  Study hard and have fun (but not too much fun!)

The Illini baseball schedule for the fall has been set.  Full practice will begin at Illinois Field on September 4th.  The annual intrasquad Orange and Blue World Series has been set for October 1-3 (with rain dates for October 4-5).

Time to get the camera ready.

I wrote about dual sport recruit Miguel Hermosillo the other day.  But just how good is he?  Well, maybe his performance on the gridiron in his first game of the season last Friday will give you an idea what kind of an athlete he is.  He broke an Ottawa High School football record by rushing for 351 yards in their 49-0 defeat of Yorkville.

The kicker?  He only needed NINE carries to do it.  Hermosillo scored five TDs in the process.  The scoring table is enough to intimidate:

First quarter

O — Hermosillo 17 run (Cunha kick), 9:34, 7-0.

O — Bryant 54 run (Cunha kick), 3:34, 14-0.

Second quarter

O — Hermosillo 90 run (Cunha kick), 10:25, 21-0.

O — Hermosillo 91 run (Cunha kick), 2:44, 28-0

O — Hermosillo 27 run (Cunha kick), 56.6, 35-0.

Third quarter

O — Hermosillo 62 run (Cunha kick), 8:54, 42-0.

Fourth quarter

O — Thomas 33 run (Cunha kick), 5:02, 49-0.

Illini football fans are probably already drooling in anticipation of Hermosillo coming to Memorial Stadium in 2013.  But let’s not forget, he does want to play baseball, too.

…please?
