Two Big Ten favorites, Nebraska and Maryland, squared off this past weekend. It looks like the new kid on the block is for real. The Terps of Maryland (22-7, 7-2 Big Ten) swept the Huskers all three games. Maryland remains stable at #16.
Speaking of sweeps, surprise Big Ten team Iowa Hawkeyes (21-7, 6-0 Big Ten) swept their second conference opponent in a row when they took Purdue after doing the same to powerhouse Indiana the weekend before. That was finally enough to get the pollsters attention. Collegiate Baseball even rated them #6 in the nation.
Illinois may have defeated Missouri (22-11) last week but that didn’t prevent the Tigers from getting into the polls. They proceeded to defeat then #3 Florida two games out of three. Florida dropped to #10 and Miz now enters the polling at #19.
After two midweek games, Illinois will try their hand with Purdue for a home series this weekend.
