I didn’t want to jinx it but I had a sneaky suspicion that Illinois firstbaseman Matt Dittman’s efforts against Michigan might have been good enough to garner him Big Ten Player of the Week. They were.
Dittman had started in only one Big Ten game before this weekend and boy, he really made the most of his chances against Michigan! For the weekend, he batted .545 with a homer and a double. He drove in six runs and scored four.
First base has been a real question mark for the Illini coming into 2009. They’ve tried a few capable players there but now with the emergence of Dittman, they seem to have found their day-in day-out player. Just in time for the homestretch.
Congrats Matt!!
