This is just a short recap of last weekend’s series against Indiana.
I will give those in charge of scheduling a lot of kudos. Despite our weather last weekend, they got it right. All three games were played in good weather. I’m glad because rain, wind and cold has been an issue this year.
Friday- Illinois 7 Indiana 5
The right team won and a lot of people saw it happen. The crowd was electric. Illinois Field was such a happy place to be that night.
We can thank Jacob Schroeder and Drake Westcott for some of that. Their dingers contributed to Illinois’ offense. Schroeder’s homerun re-claimed the lead after Indiana took the lead.
Yes, the team was pretty psyched about that. But please be gentle with Jacob! We will need him.
Saturday Game 1- Indiana 6 Illinois 4
Indiana hits the ball hard. They collected 16 hits and 11 in the first four innings. TJ Consertina did enter the game the fourth and with one pitch, induced a key double play. John Lundgren hurled three scoreless innings.
Jacob Schroeder knocked another one out of the park.
Saturday Game 2- Indiana 16 Illinois 3
Game 2 was all Indiana. It’s not hard to see why they are in first place. Unfortunately, Illinois’ team ERA took a hit.
Despite the result, it was a beautiful weekend and it was still great to see three hard fought Illinois baseball games.
