Joey Gerber is going up to the Show! The former Illini reliever was invited to Seattle’s 60-man training roster and is one of 22 invitees joining the team.
He posted a very thoughtful Tweet today…
Gerber played for the Illini from 2016 to 2018. Aside from multiple Academic Big Ten awards, he was obviously a force from the mound. He had a phenomenal junior year in 2018. With a 3.14 ERA and a team-best .182 opposing batting average, he tied the single season record of saves with 14 (since broken by Garrett Acton).
Gerber climbed the minors playing for four teams in two years. That included an All-Star nod in 2019 while he was with the Modesto Nuts in the California League.
Joey Gerber’s career with the Illini:
3-2, 4.12 ERA, 22 saves, 91 Ks in 67 2/3 IP
Looking for good things from you, Joey! Good luck!!
