One of Illinois’ most consistent starters in recent memory will be going on to greener pastures. According to FightingIllini.com, righthander Ty Weber has been signed by the San Francisco Giants organization this week!
This has been a roller-coaster year for senior Ty Weber. He was off to a great start in 2020. He was 2-0 with a 1.31 ERA in four starts. He was one of only four seniors on the Illinois baseball and he was expected to provide leadership. And he did just that. But the Covid-19 virus hit and affected the program hard. Fortunately for Weber, the season has a happy ending as he now set to report to Giants minor league system.
Looking at the stats, Weber has improved each year with the Illinois proving to be a reliable starter.
- 2017: 2-7 5.51 ERA
- 2018: 4-3 3.84 ERA
- 2019: 4-3 3.28 ERA
- 2020: 2-0 1.31 ERA
Weber finishes his Illini career with 260 2/3 innings, 12 wins and 167 strikeouts.
Ty was a tireless pitcher and I am truly sorry we couldn’t see him finish out the 2020 Illini season. He was off to a great start. Ty deserves this and Illini fans are happy for him.
Congratulations Ty Weber!
Mr Nelshoppen and Illinois baseball supporters,
This opportunity to play for the Giants is a blessing and opportunity that would not have happened without the support from coaches, teammates, fans and community . Thank you for all the kind words over the years. Go Illini !
