In all the hoopla of Coach Hartleb’s Big Ten Coach of the Decade award early this week, one announcement might have been overlooked. Illini reliever Garrett Acton notched another award.
On Tuesday, Acton was named to the Perfect Game Preseason All-American second team. This award adds to his Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-American second team honor which he received in December.
There’s a good reason for all of the positive attention for the Illini righty. Nationally, Garrett Acton led all college pitchers with 19 saves in 2019 with a 2.18 ERA. He brought home a All-Big Ten First Team honor last year.
Garrett and the rest of the Illinois Baseball team will be at the First Federal Hot Stove Banquet on January 18th. Illinois’ first game is February 14th in Winston-Salem, NC against Milwaukee.
Congratulations again, Garrett!
Always Ptoud of Garrett and am looking forward to the Illini Baseball Season and another great year.
