The 2020 Illinois baseball schedule has already been released!

Sophomore Cam McDonald is ready!

Just a few days after the Fall 2019 schedule was released, Illinois baseball has announced the schedule for the 2020 season. In the fifteen years that I have been covering the team, this is the earliest I have seen the new season schedule released.

Official announcement from FightingIllini.com

Illinois’ season begins on February 14th at the Angels College Classic which will take place at the Los Angeles Angels’ training camp. The other teams in the Classic are TBA but I bet the boys are looking forward to that experience!

The following weekend, Illinois (36-21 in 2019) will once again face the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. They will have a three-game set against the always-ranked Chants. This series will give the nation a good idea how good Illinois really is.

There’s no rest for the weary. On the weekend of February 28-March 1, the Illini will face three tough teams at the Fresno Classic. They will take on Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and UCLA.

Other highlights

  • Home opener is March 20th against Iona
  • Big Ten opener at Purdue on March 27th
  • The Illini will face two new teams: Elon and Dayton
  • Illinois will face Coach Hartleb’s alma mater Southern Illinois four times
  • Huge Big Ten home opener on April 3-5 against CWS finalist Michigan!!

The regular series ends with a road series against Rutgers May 14-16 and the Big Ten Baseball Tournament commences the following week.

We’re guaranteed of at least 50 games (and 18 games at Illinois Field). If I know the boys, they are hungry for more and are thinking Regionals again!
