When the 2019 MLB rookie draft came and went without Illini starter Andy Fisher’s name being called, I was more than a bit surprised. Fisher had been the staple of the Illini rotation going 7-1 with a 2.75 ERA in the 2019 season.
More than that, I don’t think I have seen a pitcher dominate a game like Andy. There were a few games in 2019 which he had total control. That kind of subjective perspective doesn’t translate into statistics but I know there were scouts in the crowd during a couple of those games.
Well, that’s good news for the Cincinnati Reds organization. The Reds signed Fisher after the draft and they now have a quality pitcher in their system. Between rookie ball and Class A, Fisher has a 0.36 ERA in six appearances. He has been recognized by the Reds system and has been named Cincinnati Reds Minor League Pitcher of the Month.

Congrats, Andy!!
