A hearty congratulations goes to Michael Massey! The junior second baseman was picked by the Kansas City Royals organization in the 4th round (109th overall). According to FightingIllini.com, Massey is now considered the highest drafted Illini infielder.
Massey is known for both his defensive skills and his talent with the bat. He was the first Illini to be awarded the Rawlings Gold Glove in 2019. Through his career, only one error was charged to him in 93 games with the Illini. That includes a streak of 60 straight games without a miscue.
A 2019 Big Ten First Team member, Massey hit .324 in his career with the Illini which he collected 110 rbis in 159 games. A clutch hitter, he batted third in the lineup throughout the 2019 season.
Finally, Michael Massey played the game of baseball with a smile on his face. And from this fan’s perspective, that makes the game that much more fun.
