You know we’re getting close to opening day when college baseball pundits begin weighing in on who’s hot.
It should be no surprise that Illini second baseman Michael Massey is being singled out as one of top players of the country. The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper named Massey to their pre-season All-American third team making him a player to watch.
A junior, Massey has played every game in his first two years. He has hit .330 and .326 respectively while playing virtually flawless defense. In fact, he only made one error at the keystone position during all of the 2018 season.
Massey, who hails from Brother Rice, had an especially productive conference 2018 season. He led the Big Ten in hits (37) while coming in second in rbis (25) during Big Ten play.
The Illinois baseball season begins on February 15, 2019 against Georgetown in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Congrats, Michael!
