#12 Illinois (25-6-1) continued their torrid hitting as they defeated their downstate rivals Eastern Illinois (1-24) by the score of 14-10. Newly honored Big Ten Player of the Week Jason Goldstein didn’t stop his hot hitting. He had a career high six rbis against EIU going 3 for 6 with a grand slam homerun.

I’m betting the Illini were getting a little nervous around the third inning or so. At that time, 1-23 Eastern had a 6-5 lead. Never fear… the Illini bats woke up again in the fourth inning to the tune of five runs. That put the good guys up 10-6 and they had the lead for good after that.
In addition to Goldstein, David Kerian and Ryne Roper went deep for the Illini. Kerian’s conference-leading 8th homer also extended his hit streak to 18 games. J.D. Nielsen (1-1) got the win in relief.
