Today was Game 1 of Illinois Baseball’s Orange and Blue’s World Series. Exciting because between May and March, this is really the only competitive college baseball to be found at Illinois Field even if it is an intrasquad game. I stopped by today and saw most of the game.
I was happy to see my friend John Santas who is one of Illinois Baseball’s biggest fans. Here, catcher Kelly Norris-Jones, who’s always friendly with the fans, gives John a status report on the team before the game.
Here were today’s starters. Drasen Johnson was lights out for the Blue Team. Ryan Castellanos had some trouble, giving up five runs in the second. He then settled down after that.
David Kerian charges into third base…
…then mugs for the camera.
I love the look on freshman Dan Rowbottom’s face as he heads to third. He needs to use this game face against the competition in the spring. They won’t know what to think.
The Blue Team ended up winning 8-0 behind five scoreless innings of Drasen Johnson’s pitching. Adam Walton contributed to the highlights with a bases loaded triple. There are more photos from today at IBR’s photo gallery.
If you didn’t make it to Monday’s game, no fear. There are two games left. The Orange and Blue World Series will continue at Illinois Field on Tuesday and Wednesday. Batting practice begins at 4pm and the game begins at 5pm each day. Admission is free.
