I thought I’d take a quick look around the Big Ten after the opening weekend. No conference team went undefeated but two teams were swept. Michigan went 0-3 against California and surprisingly Nebraska lost all four of their games during their jaunt out West. To their credit, two of the games were against ranked Cal-State Fullerton.

Indiana fared better than any other team in the conference winning two of their three games at the Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge. That 2-1 edge transferred to a couple of conference awards. Hoosier Sam Travis (native of Orland Park, IL by the way) won Big Ten Player of the Week honors by hitting .583 with three doubles. He helped Indiana to a win over #4 Louisville.
- Another Hoosier, Evan Bell took home the Co-Freshman of the Week award. He threw four scoreless innings and won that game over Louisville.
- Senior pitcher Brad Goldberg from Ohio State takes home Pitcher of the Week honors. He threw seven shutout innings against St. Johns at the Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge.
- Finally, Purdue, the only other team with two wins in the conference, has Co-Freshman of the Week Josh Estill to thank for that. He went 7 for 15 and hit safely in all four games at the Challenge.
