We’ll just forget the last three games. Tonight was a different night.
Illinois broke their three game losing streak Wednesday night in Peoria against the Bradley Braves winning a no-nonsense 6-3 game. Nick Chmielewski pitched six solid innings for the win.
The win was probably a happy one for the Illini. After losing the last two games against Nebraska by scores of 18-5 and 13-3 then following it up with Tuesday’s 16-7 loss to Illinois State, Illinois was looking for a nice boring win. The loss against ISU was heartbreaking no doubt since the Illini had a nice 7-0 before the Cardinals scored sixteen ugly unanswered runs to come back to win.
The only silver lining of Tuesday’s game was Willie Argo’s accomplishment. Argo wasted no time and stole a base in the first inning to break the school’s career stolen bases record with 84 total thefts. Congrats, Willie!
But today, it was nice uneventful win against the Bradley Braves. And the Illini loved it, I’m sure. One exciting thing that happened though was that the Illini got six innings out of Nick Chmielewski (left). Chm, who is still getting his way back to full strength, pitched great, allowing just one hit and three walks in six innings. He earned that win.
Credit Brandon Hohl with two hits today along with two runs scored. He was responsible for driving in Thomas Lindauer in the first inning. Also, Davis Hendrickson keyed a two-run fifth inning with an rbi triple.
Back on track. Nice win, guys!
