Jason Anderson, the former Illini pitcher who made it to the bigs, is calling it a career.
Anderson who was drafted from Illinois in 2000 by the New York Yankees, played three years in the majors for the Yankees, Mets and Indians. Since then the Danville native has bounced between the Double A and Triple A teams of the Phillies organization. This year, Anderson has played briefly for the Somerset Patriots in the Atlantic League.
Says Anderson on his retirement:
“I’m very happy with how everything turned out,’’ he said. “I had some really great opportunities in the game of baseball. There are very few people in this world that can say they got a chance to do what they love for a career.’’
Anderson plans to go back to school at the University of Illinois to complete his business degree.
