NCAA Regionals: A CS Fullerton connection and a few quick links

I ran into my ballpark buddy and Dugout Club representative John Santas on campus today. We walked and talked a bit and of course, the conversation was about Illinois Baseball.

John and I talked a bit about Cal State Fullerton and how there’s a bit of connection with University of Illinois team.  Former Illinois head coach Augie Garrido who coached here from 1988-1990, came here from Cal State Fullerton.  Not only that, when Garrido left in 1990, he went back to the Titans.

But there’s more to the story.  The current Cal State Fullerton head coach,  Dave Serrano not only was an associate  head coach under former Illini skipper Garrido but was a relief pitcher during Garrido’s first stint as a Titan head coach.

It’s a small world in college baseball.

Some pre-game links

The further the Illini get into the post-season the more popular they become with the media.

The News-Gazette posted an feature piece on DH and #2 hitter Justin Parr.

Adam Davis was the topic of an article on Preps Plus, put out by the Chicago Tribune.

And finally, why would Champaign Mayor Don Gerard be asking this question on Twitter?

“So, hypothetically speaking, what would be a good name for a minor league baseball team based in Champaign?”

I’m hoping it’s not just a hypothetical question.

Go Illini! Beat the Titans!!
