Three Illini (and one Illini recruit) were drafted today, the second day of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Also, Illinois recruit Charlie Tilson was chosen in the second round (79th overall) by the Cardinals.
Overall, the Big Ten has had nine players drafted so far. Illinois leads the conference with three and Michigan State has two. It’s definitely a testament to the idea that scouts are looking for proven winners.

Depending on where they are assigned, Illini fans may be able to catch them in a minor league game. This link is for the current minor league team affiliations. We’ve seen the Beloit Snappers (Minn.) and South Bend Silverhawks (Diamondbacks) teams play against Peoria.

If they go to short season or rookie leagues, we may have to wait until later in the season or even next year. Or, they may bypass Low A.
