I was going through my photos last night and found these shots of the Illinois Baseball team from the 2005 season, the last time they were Big Ten Champions. I don’t even think some of them are posted in the photo gallery (I should take care of that when I have time the 2005 photos are now posted). Back then, I was just starting to follow the team and as you can tell, I using a simple point and shoot camera.
The 2005 team was 33-21-1 for the season with a 20-12 conference record.
The next two shots are after the game against Iowa when they clinched the Big Ten Championship. Alas, they lost the game that day but relied on a loss to their rival. I just remember explaining to my young son why the players were so happy when they had just lost.
The rest of these photos are from the Big Ten Tournament held at Illinois Field. We didn’t do so well in the tourney that year going two and out. But it was exciting hosting the Tournament here in town regardless.
Some of you might recognize this player. He’s Shawn Roof who now plays in the Tigers organization.
The above photo is of previous head coach Itch Jones. Which prompts me to acknowledge the talents and work of Coach Dan Hartleb who now can say he has a Big Ten Championship under his belt.
Thanks Coach Hartleb (and Coach Snider, Coach Westray and Coach Dickinson)! We Illinois baseball fans appreciate all of your efforts!!
