I’m sure a lot of the Illini players are thinking the same thing. That it’s nice to get that first win under your belt.
In the second game of the Big East/Big Ten Challenge down in Florida, the Illini defeated University of Cincinnati Bearcats 7-3.
It was a game of firsts in some ways. It was John Anderson’s first start as an Illini and therefore it was it was his first college win as a starter. Anderson (left) pitched five solid innings, allowing just one run on two hits. He struck out a career high four batters.
Freshman Chris Pack got his first college appearance. In four innings, he allowed just two hits and two runs for his first save as an Illini.
Offensively, Casey McMurray is back to his usual ways. He went 2 for 5 with 2 rbis and even stole a base. It was a couple of our speedsters who came through as well. Davis Hendrickson, who played left field today, went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and a steal. Leadoff man Josh Parr had an exciting game. He knocked in three runs including a two-run single in the key second inning. Overall, Josh was 2 for 5 with a double.

Around the BE/BT Challenge
Overall, the Big Ten did much better than their 3-5 record on Friday. They managed to split 5-5 for Saturday. Winners for the Big Ten (besides Illinois) were Michigan State (again), Penn State (again), Minnesota and Northwestern.
Purdue, who ended up winning against Connecticut late last night, were spanked today by Norte Dame 19-2.
Tomorrow is the last day of the Challenge. Illinois takes on the Mountaineers of West Virginia in the last round of games. Game time is noon CT. I am told there will be Gametracker available in addition to the video provided by collegebaseball360.com
