It was the third day of the Orange and Blue World Series today. Not only was it the last game but pretty much the last time we’ll see the players in action till the 2011 season. Which is why I personally like the O&B WS… aside from getting a chance to see the new players on the team, it gives me my Illini baseball fix to tide me over till spring. Thanks guys!
Senior Billy Barrett got a few innings in for the bright Oranges.
This is newcomer 6’1” freshman Ronnie Muck.
I can’t resist posting a photo of Willie Argo stealing second. Take my word for it, we’ll be seeing a lot of this come Spring ‘11.
…he even tried stealing home but the batter was called out to end the inning.
Drasen Johnson hails from Chillicothe, Illinois. That’s the same hometown as the Parr brothers. No doubt we’ll be going back there for talent.
Tyler Hamer is another freshman hurler on the roster. He’s a lanky kid at 6’5” and 180 lbs.
For a minute there, I wondered if we were watching Illinois baseball in another dimension. Is that John Anderson playing second base?
and wait a minute… Pete Cappetta pitching? Pete did all right though racking up a K or two.
The Blue team won a wild pitch today. Above, Justin Parr and Matt Cervantes are first in line to exchange pleasantries.
The Orange team didn’t just shake it off… they seemed a little bummed about the loss. To be honest, I was heartened to see that. I like to see a little competiveness even at an exhibition game. If I can be BRUTALLY honest, I felt that was something that was missing during a lot of the ‘10 season.
If we can take some of that competiveness to the ‘11 season, half the battle is won.
Anyway, more photos at the photo gallery.
Thanks to the players for putting on a great show. And thanks to the program for having the O&B WS. For us hard core fans, it gives us a great sneak peek into ‘11 and like I said, some of us need our fix.
