Nebraska won unanimous approval to join the Big Ten from conference leaders Friday. U of I interim president Stan Ikenberry assured us that academically, Nebraska was a “good fit” as if it were an afterthought.
The idea of Big Ten expansion is a bit scary and to some, irritating. I ran the issue by a friend and he said he was still getting used to having Penn State in the conference (I’m being generous with how I’m wording it, too).
But Nebraska it is and I’m ok with it.
I haven’t got a good chance to peruse the Cornhusker baseball team much (but I noticed that five of their players were drafted this past week). You can start by checking out the program website or their Twitter page (though it isn’t updated too often).
No doubt, the Big Ten graphic artists are working on a new logo.
Other News
In totally unrelated news, I just wanted to pass on this Bob Asmussen article on illinihq.com about former Illini hoops coach Lou Henson. Seems he’s in great shape these days. He’s had health problems in past years but recently he’s picked it up. I can vouch for that. I saw him at the Kiwanis Sports Trivia contest earlier this year and he seemed to be looking great.
I think they’re an auto contender for baseball’s crown for here on out. I don’t think they’ll dominate, but they’ll be up there with the Michigan and Ohio States in terms of baseball contenders year in and year out.
Tremendous pick up from a baseball standpoint (and huge from volleyball {my other vice}))
