The Pacific Coast League lost to the International League 6-5 in their annual All-Star Game last night in front of a crowd of 16,000. Former Illini Chris Robinson did his part for the PCL, though. As starting catcher, he went 1-2 and scored a run.
My fellow blogger Teddy Ballgame on The Baseball Zealot did a nice writeup on the PCL-IL All-Star game.
While I’m on All-Star news, congrats to Matt Dittman and Lee Zerrusen. Ditt was named to the Great Lakes League All-Star team . He’ll be representing his team, the Lake Erie Monarchs. In 18 games, he’s hit .369.
Zerrusen also made his league’s All-Star team. For the Fayetteville Swampdogs in the Coastal Plain League, Big Z has dominated in the first half in the season. He has a 1.85 ERA with 10 saves. Zerrusen has 29 strikeouts in 24 1/3 innings.
Good Luck Illini!
