Wikoff: 5th round pick by Houston
The fifth round was magic for the Illini in the First-Year Player Draft. Brandon Wikoff was picked by the Houston Astros in the 161st pick overall. Seven picks later, Seth Schwindenhammer was drafted by the Red Sox. Schwindenhammer is a 2008 recruit of Coach Hartleb’s crew.

Update: Dom Altobelli gets the call in the 16th round with the 481st pick overall. He’ll be reporting to the Rockies. Nice!
Congrats to Wickoff. I’m a Houston homer when not focusing on UM. Hopefully we can see him in Corpus Christi in a year or two. Anyone that knows much about MiLB knows Houston’s farm system is very thin on good to great prospects. Brandon should have a chance to move up rather quickly.
