I’ll be on the road to the Big Ten Baseball Tournament in Columbus in less than 7 hours. Fortunately, I’ll have a ride. Mike Altobelli, father of Illinois thirdbaseman Dom, will be giving me a ride.
I’m most thankful for Mike’s generosity. During a home game, he heard I was going to the Tournament and was going to take a bus, he shook his head. “You’re not taking the bus…you’re coming with me!” Have I mentioned that I like Mike’s style? I’m just impressed that he and his lovely (and apparently understanding) wife Kathy were so willing to take me on as a stowaway on their trip to Columbus.
Thanks Mike and Kathy!
Speaking of wives, I better make mention of my own wife, Joan. I’ve been going to the Big Ten Tournament for the last three years. It’s sort of my vacation I take on my own but I do realize it comes with a bit of sacrifice on her part what with me leaving her home with two kids on top of her job. So it’s worth a mention of heartfelt thanks to my wife of 20 years who lets me go off on my baseball escapades. Thanks baby.
Well, it’s past 11pm and I really need to be up by 4;30am to get my ride on the Alto-mobile. What am I doing blogging? Time to get to bed!
Hopefully, the next post you see from me will be from Columbus summing up an Illini win.
Kathy & I really enjoyed spending time with you on our trip. It was a pleasure to have you with us. Your are a true ILLINI Fan!!!! Thanks for everything you have done for the team and us.
Besta regards
Mike & Kathy
