Brandon Wikoff (left) becomes the next in a long line of Illini who can claim the honor of being named the Big Ten Player of the Week. Wikoff was deemed the honor for his efforts against Northwestern at Evanston this past weekend. For the weekend, he hit .692 including a 4 hit game on Sunday. Wikoff also hit 3 doubles and scored six runs and drove in seven.
This comes on the heels of Wikoff being named to the Brooks Wallace Award watch list just a few days ago.
If that weren’t enough excitement in the Illinois clubhouse, catcher Aaron Johnson has been named to the Johnny Bench Award watch list.
The Bench award is annually given to the nation’s best collegiate catcher. There are two other Big Ten catchers named to the list. Dan Burkhardt of Ohio State and Josh Phegley of Indiana.
Congratulations to Brandon and Aaron!!
