Maybe it’s early to make such a prediction but I smell a Big Ten player of the Week award going to Willie Argo.
Today, Argo slammed two homeruns in Illinois’ 11-5 win over Penn State at Medlar Field. In addition to the two dingers, he was 3 for 5 with 5 rbis. Add that to the damage he did in Illinois’ 7-3 win on Friday night when Argo went 3 for 4 and missed the cycle by just a single. Last night, he drove in 3 runs and scored 3.
Casey McMurray had a pretty decent day at the plate today as well. He banged out four hits, scored two and drove in one.
Will Strack pitched good enough to get the win. He allowed five runs, four earned through 6 2/3 innings. This season’s walk-on John Anderson shut the door on the Nittany Lions pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
No comeback for Illinois today. Unlike most games Illinois played versus Big Ten teams lately, Illinois seemed to have the game in the bag from the start. They scored two in the first and had a 6 run lead before PSU put their runner across home plate.
With two wins in the bag, this puts their conference record at 10-4 good for second place and one game behind first place Ohio State (11-3).
