Last year at about this time, I corresponded with an Michigan State baseball fan named Tom Tompkins. He was nice enough to write a bit about the 2008 Illinois-MSU series that was happening in East Lansing.
Well, the 2009 MSU-Illinois series is almost upon us and Tom dropped me an email. He tells me that the new baseball stadium for the Spartans is almost done (it will be ready for their Big Ten home opener against Northwestern on April 3rd) and has some pictures on his website to give us an idea what it looks like.
The new stadium is funded by Drayton McLane to the tune of $4.5 million. He’s the one and same owner of the Houston Astros. McLane is an alum who according to Tompkins, "had only two conditions: that the new stadium would be ready for this season, and that it would be something he would be proud of."
