Nevertheless, Phil Haig is perhaps proving that his start in the "Challenge" last weekend may not be a fluke just like his two-hit shutout against Purdue in the last regular season series last year may not have been one either.
Tonight in the Lone Star State with the Illini facing University of Texas Pan-American, Haig continued his magic. The Illini offense put four runs on the board thanks to an Aaron Johnson grand slam. Then Phil Haig went to work. In seven innings, Haig allowed only three hits and two walks. And more importantly, no runs. Illinois won behind his performance, 8-0.
That puts Haig at 2-0 with a perfect 0.00 ERA in 12 innings in two starts. It won’t be long before folks start noticing this guy.
On the offensive side, major props to freshman Josh Parr who is making his start at secondbase this season for the Illini. Tonight, he went 4 for 4 with 2 rbis. That raises his average to .467 for the year.
Pete Cappetta, who it seems, has enough hits already this season, went 2 for 2 with 2 runs and an rbi.
Tomorrow, the Illini take on Stephen F Austin Lumberjacks. Game time is 3pm.
